Bio-modification of Eucalyptus Chemithermo- Mechanical Pulp with Different White-rot Fungi
نویسندگان
چکیده
Modification of chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP) by fungal treatment was investigated. Eucalyptus CTMP was treated with three different types of white-rot fungi, namely, Phanerochaete chrysosporium (P.c1767), Trametes hirsute 19-6 (T.h-19-6), and Trametes hirsute19-6w (T.h-19-6w), under a stationary culture condition. Pulp total weight loss, lignin loss, and cellulose loss were determined to compare the different enzymes secreted by the three fungal strains. Pulp physical strengths, optical properties, and bleachability after the fungal treatment were investigated to compare the effect of fungal treatment on the pulp quality improvement. The results show that lignin reduction by both T.h-19-6 and T.h-19-6 (w) was about twice as much as that by P.c-1767. However, the selectivity of T.h-19-6 (w) towards lignin over cellulose was only 0.82, while that of T.h-19-6 was as high as 4.43. After T.h-19-6 treatment, pulp tensile, tear, and internal bonding strength increased by about 27%, 38%, and 40%, respectively.

Fungal solid-state fermentation and various methods of enhancement in cellulase production
Cellulase serves vast applications in the industries of biofuel, pulp and paper, detergent and textile. With the presence of its three components i.e. endoglucanase, exoglucanase and bglucosidase, the enzyme can effectively depolymerize the cellulose chains in lignocellulosic substrate to produce smaller sugar units that consist of cellobiose and glucose. Fungi are the most suitable cellulase p...
متن کاملBiotechnology for the Eucalyptus Biorefinery
Our work on the potential of oxidative biocatalysts in eucalypt biorefinery, including cellulose and biofuel production, is revised in the context of related studies. Organisms selectively degrading lignin from eucalypt wood are ideal models for these biotechnological applications. Among them, the white-rot fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora has been largely investigated for eucalypt "biopulpin...
متن کاملColony Interaction Between White Rotters and Their Fungal Associations
Interaction among and between mushroom / white rot and brown rot fungi or soft rot fungi, studied by the dual culture plate assays showed that the outcome of a specific interaction was strongly dependent on the two organisms concerned. Phanerochate chrysosporium as one of the partner in dual cultures, invariably scored grade 2 for colony interaction as it overgrew and covered the colony of othe...

Biobleaching of hardwood unbleached kraft pulp (UKP) by Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes versicolor was studied in the solid-state fermentation system with different culture media. In this fermentation system with low-nitrogen and high-carbon culture medium, pulp brightness increased by 15 and 30 points after 5 days of treatment with T. versicolor and P. chrysosporium, respectively, and...
متن کاملThe Role of White-rot Fungi in Herbicide Transformation
Understanding herbicide transformation is necessary for pesticide development for their safe and efficient use, as well as for developing pesticide bioremediation strategies for contaminated soil and water. Recent studies persuasively demonstrated the key role of soil white-rot fungi in biotransformation of various anthropogenic environmental con‐ taminants. However, often this common knowledge...
